Who I Am as a Therapist
I am a Licensed Marriage Family Therapist in California (inactive) and currently in Arizona (active). I was born and raised in Phoenix, Arizona yet spent most of my life in California raising my two children. I have a bachelor’s degree from the University of California, Irvine in Counseling Psychology and a master degree from the University of California, Santa Barbara in Counseling Psychology.
In my practice in California, I worked with a diverse population with an emphasis on family and relationship issues. As a bereaved mother, I shifted my work to help others grieving the loss of a child. I have presented my “Turning Loss into Found” program at Rancho La Puerta in Tecate, Mexico and at Senior living sights in Phoenix. In 2018, I presented four sessions on various subjects as a Health and Wellness Expert at Red Mountain Resort in Ivins, Utah.
In my current practice as The Women’s Therapist, I am honored to focus on the issues particular to women and their unique experiences through the life cycle.
Who I Am as a Woman
I was born and raised in Arizona, and after spending the last 40 years in California I moved back to my childhood home in the desert that I love. I consider myself a spiritual seeker, a lifelong learner and, am accused of, mostly seeing the best in others.
As a licensed Marriage Family Therapist and grief specialist, I have grown and changed over the years. My life in California included working as a social worker in the child welfare system, receiving a master’s degree and becoming independently licensed as a therapist in private practice. Marriage, motherhood, divorce and the death of my son threw me into a world that I could not have imagined. I had few choices other than to rebuild and reclaim my life from this place of unbearable sorrow. This journey led me to become a certified Grief Recovery Specialist and inspired the creation of the “Turning Loss into Found” healing group.
I have had the great honor of raising a strong, talented and beautiful daughter, who as an adult now, is learning to navigate the many adventures of womanhood. Our evolving relationship from parent- child to two adult women has been a meaningful and an inspiring journey. I have learned that I am never too old to take perspective, admit my mistakes and stay in the flow of life as it shows up. Accepting and embracing change is always key to success.
My life has brought me to a place of deep desire to experience peace and freedom. I adore traveling as it challenges me to get out of my comfort zone and see the world. I have had the most amazing opportunities to visit Europe, Central America and South Africa. When I’m not traveling, I spend my free time enjoying the company of my effervescent daughter, practicing yoga and working on my as yet, not-so-mastered gardening skills.
